Description

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University is seeking an Associate Dean for Clinical Education - Everett (ADCE). The position based in Everett, WA holds a unique opportunity to serve across as the principal academic officer for the Everett clinical campus, ensuring the educational experience each learner encounters in and around Everett, WA is of the highest quality possible and in compliance with the requirement of accreditation.

The ADCE collaborates with hospitals, clinics, WSU Everett campus, faculty and others to ensure faculty associated with the Everett campus are oriented to their roles and responsibilities. This is performed working closely with the Chair of the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences (DMECS), the Associate Dean for Assessment, Evaluation and Curriculum Management, the Associate Dean for Curriculum, and the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and others in the College to ensure horizontal and vertical integration as well as overall efficacy of the college mission in the Everett region. The ADCE is also responsible for oversight of the Everett administrative staff and for Everett student and faculty experience and support.

The ADCE will hold a career track role in the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences with an academic rank commensurate with qualifications.

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is Washington’s premier community-based medical school with clinical campuses in Spokane, Everett, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver, WA. It is named after the university’s late president, Elson S. Floyd. Dr. Floyd believed that Washington State University, as the state’s land-grant institution, should train doctors to serve all of Washington.

The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

STUDENT SUPPORT

  • General
  • Scholarly activities
  • Celebration of group and individual milestones
  • provide support for personal and emotional needs
  •  Preclerkship (approximately one week per term)
  • thoughtful curation of meaningful clinical experiences
  • familiarize them with regional clinical partners,
  • plan community engagement and enrichment,
  • support their transition to clerkship phase
  • Clerkship
  • Assure well-planned, coordinated, and organized LIC (including Academic Half-Day activities)
  • Assure well-planned, coordinated, and organized 4th year experiences
  • Support student assessment and testing needs
  • Address preceptor concerns as required
  • Plan appropriate assignments of clinical coaches
  • Partner in career advising –scheduling consideration, guidance for CV, personal statement and notable characteristics, and residency match support

OTHER COLLEGE PRIORITIES

  • Partner with Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education to support region specific residency program development and operation as needed
  • Partner with Department Chairs in support and development of new region specific education efforts tied to the mission and vision of the college.
  • Partner with the Vice Dean of Research to further the scholarship and research activity that will make an impact in the local and regional community

CLINICAL PARTNERS

  • Recruit and orient clinical partners, promote values and mission of the College
  • Meet regularly to check in with needs, concerns, or worries regarding our partnerships
  • Perform site visits to become familiar with facilities and teaching environment
  • Open channels of communication to be responsive to changes in medical environment
  • Develop relationships with regional leaders and maintain routine follow up
  • Lead and execute the ongoing process of clinical preceptor recruitment, growing regional partners in numbers, particularly in underserved and rural regional areas
  • Meet the needs of faculty, optimizing number of students and fulfilling teaching goals
  • Partner with the office of faculty development to ensure adequate faculty development resources
  • Ensure faculty completion of college and accreditation requirements.
  • Partner with College Practice Plan (Range) as it develops to support a cross state mission

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

  • Work with WSU campus community, partnering with campus interest groups and engaging in volunteer activities
  • Partner with K-12 educational systems to provide education, mentorship, and service
  • Support community needs of underserved and rural area through volunteering and active participation and engagement
  • Focus on needs of the indigenous population in education, mentorship, and service
  • Encourage community involvement with WSU through host families and community partnership/volunteering

COLLEGE LEADERSHIP

  • Act as leader of regional site, serve as the face of college in region
  • Service on required Committees, working groups, task forces as needed
  • Teaching, academic support, course direction, assessment as needed
  • Sound execution of all administrative duties and responsibilities
  • Partner with chairs to ensure proper appointment and ranking of new faculty according to established guidelines and policies

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with medical education delivery and health care delivery systems.
  • Experience managing professionals in a complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at rank of Associate Professor or higher at an accredited medical school in the United States.
  • Board certification in area of specialty.
  • Experience interacting with the LCME or other educational accrediting bodies.
  • Served in a senior leadership role in a community based medical school or academic health center.

Annual Salary: The base salary for the Career Track position is $213,200 - $257,972 at 100% FTE. This salary range is commensurate with qualifications and negotiated full-time equivalency (FTE). While serving as Associate Dean, this position will be eligible for an annual temporary administrative stipend.
