We are currently seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder to assist with training and mentoring Coders, answering questions, providing quality review (as needed) and work hands on providing IP coding.
Responsibilities:
- Perform inpatient coding services as well as utilize expertise to provide assistance when needed in areas such as Coder training, scheduling or special projects.
- Collaborate with UASI Managers and Internal Quality Team to ensure staff quality meets expectations.
- Provide education to Coders as needed based on audit findings.
- Identify trends and perform training to improve Coder quality.
- Comply with UASI’s policies regarding the use and disclosure of protected health information which includes accessing and using protected health information only to the extent necessary to fulfill the above-mentioned responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years IP Coding experience and at least 1 year experience providing education, mentoring of IP Coding Staff
- Active credential from AHIMA or AAPC
- Knowledge and experience of coding guidelines including but not limited to ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding skills, DRG and APC assignment.
- Other skills such as IR, E/M, ICD-10-CM/PCS are preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly.
- Flexible, detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently, be quality conscious and able to adapt well to change
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
- Initiative to perform research to maintain a high level of knowledge and skill
- Willingness to take ownership of responsibilities and deadlines
- Focus on producing high quality work that is error free
