**This position is based out of Broward Health.

Job Summary

Plans, organizes, implements, and administers an art therapy program to support social, emotional, intellectual, and developmental needs of hospitalized children and their families. Designs program to reduce stress, pain, anxiety of inpatient and outpatient hospitalization for the pediatrics patient and their family. Develops, provides, and documents clinical and evidence-based art interventions to accomplish individualized goals in the hospital setting. Collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide family centered therapy services and to develop and administer an individualized plan of care, adhering to the professional standards of practice of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).

Job Specific Duties

• Conducts medical art therapy sessions to provide clinical interventions to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of patients and families throughout the hospital (inpatient and outpatient as needed) through creative expression and verbal processing.
• Ensures that interventions are developmentally appropriate with careful consideration given to safety. Ensures to be trauma-informed on all age groups to provide appropriate art activities.
• Develops therapeutic rapport and alliance with patients/families that are caring, trusting, reliable, and beneficial. Identifies, assesses, and responds to individualized patient/family needs and provides timely and effective interventions for families in crisis situations with complex psychosocial needs.
• Provides timely assessment, treatment planning, and clinical documentation towards a patient's psychological, emotional, communication/cognition, behavioral, physical, and quality of life goals.
• Observes and documents patient reactions, progress, or other outcomes related to art therapy in Cerner PowerChart.
• Collaborates and communicates via formal and informal means to coordinate service delivery with patients/families and amongst the psychosocial team, medical teams, and others to prioritize caseloads and maintain a holistic perspective of each family's care. Makes necessary referrals to other team members and/or community resources.
• Effectively engages with patients and families in both individual one-to-one bedside sessions and group art therapy sessions to build rapport and acknowledge their progress.
• Integrates behavioral, developmental, improvisational, medical, or neurological approaches into art therapy treatments.
• In collaboration with palliative care, provides support and legacy building to families of critically and/or terminally ill patients through the art making and verbal processing of medical art therapy.
• Collaborates among expressive arts therapy team to educate staff and families throughout the hospital and affiliated communities on the role and benefits of medical art therapy.
• Performs job functions adhering to NCHS' service principles.
• Maintains and ensures cleanliness and organization of work area, art supplies, and other equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

• Master's Degree in Art Therapy
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
• Registered Art Therapy from Art Therapy Credentials Board
• 4 years related experience utilizing various art techniques
• Experience in a hospital setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Board Certified preferred.
• Membership and active participation with AATA recommended.
• Pediatric experience preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Experience in palliative care preferred.
• Basic knowledge in physiology and childhood development.
• Knowledge of procedures, illnesses, injuries, and other related events on an inpatient unit.
• Knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care to the age of the patients served on assigned unit.
• Effective interpersonal skills to negotiate for cooperation and encourage collaboration with superiors, peers, physicians, and staff.
• Flexibility to respond to departments' needs and varying schedules.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Displays a professional image and models service excellence.
• Experience in dealing effectively with people in stressful situations.
• Proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other mixed media.
